Harry Gallagher
Dr. Harry Gallagher was an Irish pediatric cerebrovascular neurosurgeon from County Donegal. He was the husband of NICU nurse Catriona Baird and the father of speech-language pathologist Christina Gallagher.
Early Life and Background
Harry was born and raised in County Donegal, Ireland. He met Glasgow-born Cat around college age. They married after both had established their clinical careers, then moved with Christina to Boston when their daughter was thirteen.
Career
Harry specialized in complex pediatric cerebrovascular surgery. He could maintain unusually detailed three-dimensional mental maps of cerebral vasculature, including venous anatomy. Christina described the ability by saying, “He can map veins in his head. It’s kind of frightening.” Harry used that spatial command alongside imaging, angiography, surgical navigation, team review, and the other safeguards required for cerebrovascular surgery.
Family and Core Relationships
Catriona Baird
Harry and Cat met around college age and married only after both had developed professional identities of their own. Cat continued using Baird professionally after their marriage. Harry supported the decision and told her that giving up an established professional name would be foolish.
Christina Gallagher
Christina was Harry and Cat’s daughter. She was born in County Donegal and moved with them to Boston at thirteen before pursuing speech-language pathology.
